I was very excited to revisit Dick Tracy. I was 9 years old when it came out and was excited to watch it, but I hadn’t seen it in probably 30 years and was curious how well it held up.

Following this year, Katzenberg, the studio head of Walt Disney Pictures, releases an internal memo challenging the approach to backing big, expensive blockbusters. Dick Tracy not living up to expectations and Pretty Woman exceeding expectations is the impetus for this letter.
I also think it’s got to be what inspires the beginning of Jerry Maguire where he writes an incendiary memo to his colleagues.
